Title: help for Newbies
Post by: alpha500delta on March 25, 2010, 07:54:01 am
I hear alot  n00bs/newbies saying:

How I spawn car?
How I get weapon?
Who is admin?
Can I be admin?
How to get to airport (or other place)

and my suggestion is putting a bot that says words (confusing, heres an explanation)

I know a server (Don't aks name/IP)
where they have some kind of bot, and if you say a certain word/line
it automaticly puts a text in the chat like:

[ AON]Alpha:How I spaw car????
[Bot]: Use /v [carname] to spawn one!

haha this topic is a goldmine of grammatical errors: I love it lol. and um i wouldn't use it just because since we already have the /help / rules command they should have the common sense to try that first, and we also have admins to answer those questions or if they are busy hopefully there are players who wont be douches

It seems no-one is using /help since alot of newbies ask how to spawn a car.....

Then people of WoS should help them out and not be total douches, i mean we say hello to people in the introduce yourself section and i hope it's not all for recognition. either way its a nice suggestion but that would mean admino or whoever would have to script in the helpbot or whatever certain simple questions that they would ask then put in the answers into it. which unlazy/ ignorant players can easily answer instead.

Or, how about this.

Since there are always new players in SA-MP itself. We as administrators are inclined to help, as it's part of our job, my job anyway. whenever i am, in fact online i do help, and i know a few other administrators that help, because that's what we do, we help/keep things clean and running.

As i recall, Brother, you ask me for help with certain things as well, or at least you did when you first started, you didn't do /help at first, i had to tell you.

Lets put things in a more, simple matter. If you were new, lets pretend you are. now, when you first join a server, your going to ASK what commands work no matter what, you don't just want to go around typing random things. not to mention that in truth, not EVERY server has /help.

Ok, Now back to the point. if your new, your going to ask for help, and your going to ask for simple things such as how to get started, or how to do certain things, THAN someone may suggest a /help or /rules. I know i suggest them once someone states they are new.

Now. Not everyone is willing to spend the time to help, which really isn't much in the first place, However if you want to make a change than you could help out a bit yourself, i know you do but I'm not just speaking to you but to others who don't understand, who are ignorant.

I'm not saying that we NEED help, but I'm not saying we don't want any. Not to mention that there are enough people on the server to answer some common questions among new players, and if no one answers a new player, and you notice you, YOU should take responsibility and answer their questions, with complete answers..even if someone asks 'what are the commands' just a '/help' and a '/commands' would be enough for that player. you don't have to explain the entire game to the player(s).

But you should at least show them respect, and help them a small bit. If someone asks to stunt or hang out with you, give them a good time, there's no need not to have more friends in game, especially when your stunting, or just hanging out doing nothing, its fun to have as many people as possible.

As far as them asking about administration, you should contact an administrator, if one has not replied to this question already. As far as the other questions remain, such as 'how to get weapons?' or 'how to spawn car?' those are questions that you could/should answer. If you know the server well you could not only explain it too one person, but there could be other players who are new, who are scared and don't want to look stupid and ask these questions. so in answering them, you could not only be helping one player, but perhaps even more.

Blaablaablaa and some more text

Ehm I see....

So what you say is that /help and /commands are enough?

Well I think the players should indeed help, but the first command most people can type is /help (correct me ifim wrong)
There is it all, but if you type help you get: /help--->some menus--->even more menus etc. etc.
But even if they read /help most still ask 'why I cant have a gun!!'

Any helpfull player would answer that (as I seen many times before) and some answer that question, so that shouldn't be a problem...

But Maybe there could be some kind of little text in the bottom of your screen that says some random things like helpbot, and no 'chech /language to see if there is a language for you'
But just 5 basic lines like:

-you cant have one because guns are disabled here, this is a freeroam server, only in /deathmatch you can use guns
-you can spawn a car with /v [carname] or /v [carid]    ex: /v cheeta  /v 611
-first type /help and /commands then ask
-are new? type /help or ask someone to get further
-Want to Use a gun? go to /deathmatch

or something like that

I like this..a lot although it pretty much sums up what i've said, but i like some of the idea you've placed here as well. especially the language one, even though its a help bot already, i think?
New players should have a /language and /help automatically pop up on their screens so that it is guaranteed they see it and it could perhaps help much more, for a much more efficient, fun time.

Thats true, I see some newbies asking things, and when nobody answers, the leave WoS and never come back...

that wouldn't be the only reason. if a newbie leaves its because nobody paid attention to him/her or people were dicks or maybe the got bored, 96% of the time if a person goes somewhere and they find a friend its gonna give them a reason to come back so the /help or /language thing also has to be backed up with friendship, and hospitality.

Which is one thing i definitely promote, I'm all about keeping people here and getting them friends, if no one will be-friend them, than i become their friend. But your right, when people say stupid things such as 'fucking noob' or 'stupid noob /rules!' or something, they do leave. and they may or may not come back. Friendship IS indeed a powerful thing, even just a 'hello' or 'hi' should/would suffice for someone for the time being.

However on the other hand, most players want to DM because..its san andreas and people love killing(for some strange reason) and with that you should tell them that /deathmatch is what they want, or if they have something with someone, tell them to /challenge. That way they have fun, and meet a friend.

when you kill someone in deathmatch or in challenge your more than likely to make friends because that's an event that, strange enough, brings people together 'OMG that was fun!' 'Yeah your cool..you comin on later? i have to go now' etc etc. so friendships do in fact, build up. not to mention that there are some people who are scared of other players, or to talk. or are just Loners.

Now to take into consideration that not only do people make friends easily, but they also make enemies easily, and enemies have much more power than friends do, in certain cases. If you have a friend, and also a flamer on you, that flamer is going to hurt you. even if it is the internet words can hurt, and too the new player, they hurt deep. so they player leaves, or they correctly /report the flamer, or one of the Administrator's will deal with such problems.

Overall i think making friends is a much, much easier thing, and once you spend about a day or maybe even just an hour in deathmatch, you should make friends easily, and that persuades the players to play more.

We've already proven this concept with /question, people don't read anything displayed on their screen.
