Title: Congratz to your Web designer!
Post by: Orion on June 08, 2010, 08:59:42 am
Seriously, I think the new index page is a masterpiece. Simple, informative, homogeneous yet attractive. Gratz!

If you used a template, then.. Doh! Lol

[edit] I also just happen to stumble upon my statistic page. Most impressing all the info there is there!!!! :jawdrop: [/edit]

Design is nice, but there is one thing that sucks. The technique used for the LIVE Chat is the so called "polling" which causes a very heavy load on both the Server and des Client.

Alternatives are:
1.  Long-Polling for example through a PHP socket connection with the Chatserver, so that the HTTP server never closes the connection
2.  Using flash sockets
3.  Using Websockets with a flash-fallback

We simulated 5,000 clients using live at the same time, results were 0.4% CPU load on the server.

Client-side, this only uses 0.01% of my CPU. We recommend you use FireFox, that is what this website is designed for.

A high load on our server for apache is considered 80% on a single core out of 4 cores.
